to daruman's knowledge there are three different ways in which professors deliver lectures. first, there are those who simply recite their scripts, which can be purchased (not always cheaply) in the university publisher's shop, second, there are those, who oblige the students to constantly take notes, because they do not publish their scripts, and last, there are those who, well, really teach us something by encouraging us to think with them.

two weeks into the semester daruman stopped going to lectures of the first kind and simply read the script instead. at the same time he started to really get anxiuos about missing lectures of the second kind, because it is not always easy to round up notes of somebody who was there. and daruman really got to like the third kind. they are ideal in his opinion, anyway: entertaining conversation with educational value.
