casa bambú

a crazy first week in ecuador is coming to an end. daruman can not tell what he liked best: the game of football with a couple of new friends in tumbaco, the quiet hours of taking fotographs in the ciudad vieja or the long night of dancing with a lovely quiteña in mariscal.
what contributed most to daruman's well-being in quito, however, was his staying at the casa bambú, a small hostel situated on a steep slope between the old and the new part of the city. climbing the street to the hostel is good training for lazy lungs unacostumed to the low concentration of oxygen in the air on 2850 m above sea level.
not only travelers reside here, but also people who have come to work in quito for some time. in the community kitchen they all get together to make plans for another night of partying or for the continuation of their journeys. daruman hardly gets the chance of feeling lonely.
